As with many boxing techniques there’s no need to reinvent the wheel. The path is there for you to follow. But if you don’t know where to start, we’ve got it covered.
Jump Rope Sprints to Increase Boxing Speed
Every boxer jumps rope. But performing jump rope sprints works wonders for speed and endurance. You’ll be working the fast-twitch muscle fibres that you use in punching motions too.
- Pump your knees up and down quickly while working your wrists. Simple.
- Turn it into interval training. Sprinters don’t sprint for long.
Grab your training partner and practice combinations that you will use in the ring. Always keep speed at the front of your mind.
- Perform 5 to 6 combinations and perform a pivot at the end of each combo. Footwork is central to everything in the fight game.
The Speed Bag
This might not seem like much of a tip to increase your boxing speed because it’s so obvious. But, it works. So long as you use the correct technique it will improve your boxing speed.
- Take small swings at the bag and start slowly building up speed.
The Double-End Bag
This is a true test of hand eye coordination and a great way to develop it. There’s no point having fast hands if you can’t hit a moving target. It’s quite a challenging skill to learn but it’ll help you to mimic how a person moves when you’ve hit them and how they move away.
- Start by jabbing the bag and observing its movement. Once you can link a few jabs together successfully, begin working in a cross. You can build from there.
