Here at VANDA we offer our members a unique workout experience, all of our classes offer a variety of intensity, skill set focus and type of fitness. We want you to leave VANDA feeling refreshed, like you worked hard and ready for the rest of your day! We know you can’t always get to us at VANDA so here is another way you can train outside the gym whilst supporting the work you do in our classes and this high-intensity interval training (HIIT)!
One of the biggest misconceptions about working out is in order to make great gains, you have to spend hours slogging away in the gym, busting a gut to see results: weight loss, muscle growth, improved general health. But that isn’t the case. Working smarter, not longer, is key to achieving your exercise goals!
If you’re new to the idea of HIIT, it is pretty simple: your training is condensed into a series of highly intense workouts, interspersed with less intense recovery periods – meaning you get through the workout quicker, but benefit from it for longer.
How? Because HIIT keeps on working long after you stop training. It’s essentially working out, seeing better results AND gaining an extra hour in the day!
Plus, with the use of our Smart wearables, you can track your progress during your workout.
4 reasons why HIIT is so beneficial
- HIIT burns fat.
HIIT is a form of anaerobic training which means that whilst you work out, your body uses its own reserves of energy to keep you going (burning a lot of calories). But after you stop, your metabolism stays raised due to the excess post-exercise oxygen consumption effect.
Because of the amount of effort you put into training, your body has to keep burning calories (it eats into its own fat stores) long afterwards to replace your repleted energy stores and repair your muscle proteins that were damaged whilst you were working out.
2. HIIT builds strength.
HIIT is great for toning and defining your muscles as it places a significant amount of metabolic stress on your muscle tissues. As your body works to heal itself post-workout, it produces increased levels of human growth hormone, testosterone and insulin-like growth factor-1 which all work to repair your muscle proteins, resulting in muscle volume and definition. Sculpted arms anyone.
3. HIIT improves cardiovascular health.
Your heart is a muscle – to get it to grow, it has to be worked, hard. HIIT pushes your heart and circulatory system to work harder, building your heart’s strength and improving its functionality. And once your heart and lungs are pumping more efficiently, so you can dig deeper and reap more benefits.
4. HIIT improves mental health.
Any form of working out, but especially HIIT as it is such an intense form of workout, help relieve the symptoms of anxiety, depression and stress – all things we experience in our day to day lives.
The effort required to do a HIIT workout means you are focused on what you’re doing, which in turn helps to quiet the anxious chatter in your head all the while releasing those positive endorphins which help to lift your mood.
The more you work out the better you will feel within your body, and the better you will feel about yourself. As you grow stronger and relish the challenges our boxing and Muay Thai classes present to you, you will see how awesome your body is!
